Disney Jr. LIVE

Last night we drove to Wichita and took the boys to see Disney Jr. LIVE.  It was the Pirate and Princess Adventure show.  Doc McStuffins was the pre-show and she is Ledger's favorite.  Then Mickey and Minnie introduced the show and the first half was all Sophia the First with special appearance by Cinderella.  The boys like the princess part, but were really just waiting for the PIRATES!  At Intermission, we went to the concourse to check out the merchandise.  Grammie Pam gave the boys $20 each to spend on something special at the show.  Ledger picked out a glowing Jake and the Neverland Pirates sword, so of course we had to get them the same thing ($27 each!!!).  Geez.  I guess those prices are a preview of what Disney World will be like in May.  Oh well.  After intermission, it was Jake and the Neverland Pirates show with Captain Hook and Peter Pan.  By the end of the show, Ledger was dancing in the aisles, so the show was totally worth it.  Locke especially liked seeing Mickey Mouse.  Overall, it was a fun family outing and our kids are just the right age to enjoy it! :)

Locke's First Haircut

Tonight was Locke's FIRST HAIRCUT.  It's hard to believe that he's almost 2 years old and we've never cut his hair.  It is very baby fine -- if you blow on it, it will stand straight up.  But it was starting to look pretty straggly with those little hairs hanging over his ears and down on his neck.  Luckily for us, his big brother had his haircut first and showed Locke that there was nothing to be worried about.  So Locke got up into the big kid chair and handled his first haircut like a pro.  After a few minutes, he was ready to get down, but allowed Tracy to finish up without throwing a fit.  He sure is a big boy now!

And in case you're wondering what Ledger's hair cut looks like.. here's a pic from the three of us the next morning...

Warm Day in January

Sometimes in Kansas we get these weird warm days in the middle of winter. This weekend was one of those weird warm weekends. We made sure to take advantage of it by taking the kids to the park and trying to get outside as much as we could.  Ledger makes friends wherever he goes and quickly found some other kids to play with at the park. Locke wants do whatever brother is doing, which means that mom has to keep a close eye on the boys. We were joined at the park by our friends the Greens and their kids Dawson and Thad. In the old days the kids would play and the parents would sit and talk. But now the parents are so busy chasing after kids we don't have a chance to talk!

Oh, and don't worry it doesn't stay warm for long. This Thursday it is supposed to be a high of 20 degrees... welcome to Kansas.

Preparing for a Magical New Year

With a vacation to Walt Disney World (and Universal Studios including Harry Potter World) scheduled for 2014, we are getting in the spirit early by having a magical new year.  We can frequently be found watching YouTube Disney trip videos.  (We love seeyareelsoon on YouTube.)  We are also watching Disney movies and reading Disney storybooks to familiarize Ledger with some of the characters.  Tonight, the kids dressed up in Harry Potter glasses and waved this magic wand to cast a spell for all of our friends and family to have a fantastic 2014.   Expecto Goodnewyearso!

Welcome to 2014

This year, we brought in 2014 relatively quietly.  Jarod and Briana Simpson brought over homemade chicken noodle soup and desserts and then stayed for cards afterwards.  Briana brought wine for the grown-ups and sparkling grape juice for Ledger.  Ledger loved drinking out of a grown-up wine glass!  After the kids were put to bed and the Simpsons left, Chris and I snuggled on the couch and watched the NYE countdown.  It was a quiet New Year -- just the two of us and a kiss.  Then to bed -- midnight is late for us!
